Dr. Courtenay Rourke Ainsworth

Dr. Courtenay has always felt a special bond with children with disabilities.  As early as high school, she volunteered with Special Olympics, and in college she dedicated her time to working at a special needs camp and directing an inclusive afterschool program.  Later, after grad school, she worked as a behavioral consultant for children with autism.  You could say it’s been a lifelong passion.

Today she is one of the founding owners of BrainTree Neuropsychological Services and is at the top of her field for clinical training. By managing her own practice, Dr. Courtenay has the opportunity to be involved in every step of patient care, allowing her to provide more complete support to both the child and their family.

Dr. Courtenay holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology.  She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at the University of Illinois – Chicago Medical Center and is board certification-eligible in clinical neuropsychology.

She is a member of the American Psychological Association (Division 40 – Neuropsychology), International Neuropsychological Society, and Illinois Psychological Association. She was an invited lecturer for medical students and psychiatry residents at the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical School. Dr. Courtenay also provided Neuroanatomy Series lectures for graduate students within the UIC Department of Neuropsychology.  She has conducted research on diagnostic issues in Asperger’s Disorder, cognitive decline after cardiac surgery, and concerns of caregivers of stroke survivors.
